At a company as small as Tesla, the loss of an executive and two engineers could have a pretty serious effect.

SAN FRANCISCO — An executive and two employees of Tesla Motors, a California electric car company, were killed in a plane crash in East Palo Alto on Wednesday, the company confirmed.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s high-profile chief executive, was not on the plane.
